PRODUCT DETAILS

What are your three main fit types?

We can group Samuelsohn and Heritage gold styles into three different fit categories. : Classic, Contemporary & Trim. It’s important to note that these are generalized categories and the items can different in the exact fit type. It’s important to always double check the size chart of an item before purchase to ensure you will be satisfied with the feel.

Classic: A traditional business suit with a generous fit and traditional padding. The jacket is roomier in the arms and across the chest, and cut straight down the sides. The trouser offers a soft drape and a straight leg that’s generous in the thigh.

Contemporary: Our most popular fit for a reason: the naturally-flattering silhouette is roomy in the arms but tapered just enough towards the waist to give the jacket shape, while still remaining comfortable. The trousers are cut with the same rise as our Classic fit, with slightly less drape below the knee.

Trim: Our trim fit sits closer to the body at the chest, in the arms and towards the waist. The trousers are narrower to elongate the leg line and are cut with a lower rise than our Contemporary and Classic fits.

What is the B-Fit

The B-fit is another name for the Heritage Gold classic fit.

Where are your garments made?

The majority of our garments are handcrafted in Montréal, Canada, by highly skilled artisans. These craftsmen use only the finest fabrics sourced from Europe's most esteemed mills, ensuring unparalleled quality and refinement. Select items from limited edition collections or specific categories are produced internationally. We always include the country of origin information on our product detail pages.

What’s the difference between garments found on Factory Direct and those found at stores?

The items found on our website are from previous seasons or were made specifically for the Factory Direct Outlet. Unlike other brands that produce items for their outlet using lower-quality construction, we maintain our high standards of quality and craftsmanship.

Do you offer made-to-measure online?

Not at this time. The essence of luxury made-to-measure shopping involves not just fashion choices but fit, feel, and customization, all elements that should be done in person. One of our cherished retail partners would be delighted to assist you in creating the custom suit of your choice. Find a retailer near you using the .

Can I pick a different pant size to go with a suit?

No, our suits are sold as jacket and trouser sets and cannot be changed. We use a 6-drop. We recommend getting the right jacket fit as opposed to the pants fit because pants are easier and less expensive to alter. You can alter up or down a size. If you require more than a size up or down, purchasing a suit set online will not be the right choice for you. We highly recommend going the custom route if you have non-standard sizing. This will ensure you have the perfect fit, with no compromises. Find a retailer near you.

My jacket is puckering, does this mean it’s defective?

Not necessarily. In warmer climates during transportation, when the item is not in a temperature-controlled environment, the fabric may slightly pucker. Because we use entirely natural materials, they are prone to change when exposed to the elements. We recommend hanging the item on a sturdy hanger for one week to see if this makes a difference in the shape.

There is a small pull or inconsistency in the weave, does this mean it’s defective?

No. We use entirely natural materials and make all our items by hand. As a result, there may be small imperfections. This does not mean the item is defective, and often these items can be easily fixed. Please contact customer service, and we will be happy to assist you.

What does canvas construction mean?

Samuelsohn and Heritage Gold only use canvas construction. The canvas is a layer of fabric (traditionally made from horsehair, wool, and other materials) that is placed between the outer fabric of the suit and the inner lining. The purpose of the canvas is to provide structure and shape to the suit jacket, allowing it to mold to the wearer's body over time.

In contrast, a fused suit has a glued interlining instead of a canvas. Samuelsohn and Heritage Gold garments are never fused. While fused suits are generally cheaper and quicker to produce, they do not offer the same level of fit, comfort, or longevity as canvas-constructed suits.

What is the difference between full & half canvas?

Full Canvas: All of Samuelsohn & Heritage Gold jackets, sport coats, and tuxedo jackets are full canvas. The canvas layer extends from the shoulders down to the hem of the jacket. This type of construction is often considered the highest quality because it allows the jacket to drape naturally and adapt to the wearer's body over time, leading to a better fit and greater comfort. Full canvas construction is more labor-intensive and time-consuming, making these suits more expensive.

Half Canvas: In a half canvas jacket, the canvas extends from the shoulders down to the chest and typically stops around the pocket area. This method still provides some of the benefits of canvas construction, such as better shape and structure compared to fused suits; however, it can be produced at a lower cost. We currently do not carry half-canvas online, but stay tuned, we may have an exciting announcement coming soon.
